White Ash Falls 'Over the Night' (album stream)
Published Oct 30, 2013Vancouver-based tunesmith Andy Bishop's current solo project, White Ash Falls, released its debut album only a year ago. But not one to rest on his laurels, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter has returned with another set of folk-flecked tunes. Stream his sophomore LP, Over the Night, in full ahead of its November 5 release through Light Organ Records.
Recorded by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, the New Pornographers) at Burnaby, BC's late, great Hive Studios, Bishop's second record comes loaded with countrified scorchers and introspective acoustic ditties that give way to a kaleidoscope of sound and cavernous reverb. It's all the more strengthened by an all-star cast of performers, including members of Yukon Blonde and Rah Rah, as well as Louise Burns.
Opening with the trembling barnyard stomper "Want It Bad," Bishop and co. deliver an eclectic mix of roots-inspired rock that recalls the golden age of FM radio ("Running Scared"), appalachian folk ballads ("I Have Been Received"), and your favourite cross-country road trip (highway odyssey "Linger On").
Hear for yourself by listening to the album in its entirety below. Don't forget to catch White Ash Falls alongside the Fugitives as they tour across Canada until the end of November.
