Published May 28, 2019Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" is a definite live favourite, but the song hit a serious snag this weekend when a festival attempted to stop its performance by cutting the power on the Canadian songwriting hero.
Young and the Promise of the Real were playing at BottleRock Napa Valley this past Saturday (May 25) when the incident occurred. As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, the band started up set finale "Rockin' in the Free World" at 9:50 p.m. local time — but that was just 10 minutes before the event's strict curfew.
And while 10 minutes might seem like plenty of time to rip through the song, it apparently wasn't, as Neil and co. went overtime, causing organizers to literally pull on them and cut off the speakers on the main stage.
As you can see in the fan-captured footage below, however, that still didn't deter Neil and the band, who kept playing the song anyway via their onstage amps — complete with a little help from a mass of singing audience members.
As previously reported, Young is working on a new album with Crazy Horse that is apparently called Pink Moon. So far, though, release details have yet to be ironed out.
