Published Apr 27, 2014Totally rad, poppy indie-rock from a cool, loud local band. One of the electric guitars was tricked out with some ambient effects, its chiming notes cutting through a spacey, Pavement-like stew of smart-alecky lyrics and lovely, kinda Wayne Coyne-y vocals. Two guitarists, a bassist and a keyboardist all played like aces, while the drummer played like someone who just learned how to play his instrument in the past few weeks. But he soldiered through and only really biffed one song.
Everything else was spellbinding and markedly consistent from song to song, with really great melodies and ideas. The band rolled through, as if their set was one long song and it had its power. I wanted to hear it all again.
UPDATE: I just found out they've only been playing together as a band for a week and the drummer started playing drums a month ago. So, given the context, Fog Lake was astonishing.
