Published Nov 14, 2019Earlier this year, The Simpsons removed an old episode featuring Michael Jackson from all future broadcasts, and it appears the omission also extends to new streaming service Disney+.
IndieWire reports that the episode "Stark Raving Dad," which appeared in the show's third season, does not appear on the service as part of its removal, which also extends to Blu-ray DVD box sets and syndication.
The decision to pull the episode was made in March, following the premiere HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, which detailed allegations of child abuse by the pop icon.
In the wake of pulling the episode, executive producer James L. Brooks told the Wall Street Journal, "It feels clearly the only choice to make," adding, "I'm against book burning of any kind. But this is our book and we're allowed to take out a chapter."
Showrunner Al Jean, who co-wrote "Stark Raving Dad," called the decision "something I agree with completely," before claiming Jackson used his cameo to groom boys.
Disney+ users have also found that The Simpsons viewing experience on the service has been mangled by bad aspect ratio crops.
