Published Sep 26, 2017Andy Muschietti's IT is undoubtedly one of the year's most successful films, in part thanks to the revamped and undeniably scary version of Pennywise. The Russian iteration of Burger King is shaking in its boots, however, as it thinks the monster bears a striking resemblance to an even scarier clown — McDonald's mastermind Ronald McDonald.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fast food chain has launched a Whopper of a request with Russia's Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, demanding that the organization pulls the film. Burger King claims that, thanks to Pennywise's supposed resemblance to Ronald McDonald, the film serves as an ad for McDonald's.
A spokeswoman from the FAS told THR that it is investigating this ridiculous claim. "We can't be concerned with the content of the film because the writer and director have their own creative understanding of any character," she said, adding that they're looking into whether or not the film features any product placement.

In some related news, the sequel to IT has just been slated with a release date of September 6, 2019. Director Muschietti is once again expected to return, while the script is being developed by screenwriter Gary Dauberman.
